Little Rock Labiaplasty Specialist Dr. Melanie Prince has dedicated her career to helping women feel comfortable and confident in their bodies. We understand that for many women, the issues that drive the desire to seek labiaplasty are rooted in insecurity and discomfort. That’s why you can rest assured knowing that we will maintain the utmost discretion and standards of privacy when it comes to your procedure at Prince Plastic Surgery.
What Is Labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty, also referred to as labia reduction surgery, is the most common vaginal rejuvenation procedure.1 It is performed to reduce the size of a woman’s labia minora—trimming the excess tissue of the inner lips of the vulva to allow the lips of the labia minora to sit tucked neatly within the labia majora—the outer lips of the vulva.
Who Gets Labiaplasty?
Every woman—including you—is unique and the size and shape of labia from woman to woman is as individual as your fingerprints. There is no “normal,” but there are physical characteristics such as excess tissue that can cause discomfort making normal everyday functions challenging. Many women who seek labiaplasty do so for practical reasons; especially elongated labia may cause chafing or make sitting on a bicycle seat challenging.
There are just as many women who seek labiaplasty for aesthetic reasons. For these women, the outward appearance of elongated labia can cause them to be self-conscious during sex or while wearing tightfitting pants, a swimsuit, or some types of underwear.
Reasons for Labiaplasty
Labiaplasty is one of the world’s fastest growing areas of cosmetic surgery according to the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.2 Women come to the decision to have labiaplasty for a variety of reasons, both practical and aesthetic. Some of the most common reasons a woman undergoes labiaplasty are to:
- Eliminate discomfort when exercising
- Alleviate irritation and increase comfort during everyday activities
- Reduce the appearance of large labia minora
- Create symmetry for uneven labia minora
- Relieve discomfort during intercourse
- Improve confidence after childbirth
- Restore aging labia or tissue that has changed due to weight loss

Dr. Prince will use this time to put your mind at ease about labiaplasty because we know that the best patient is an informed patient. We’ll also use your consultation to assess your medical history and review any challenges you may be facing with your current anatomy as well as the look you’d like to achieve for your vulva. You can feel confident knowing that we have your best interests in mind and will never pressure you to commit to any procedure before you’re ready.
How is Labiaplasty Performed?
Your labiaplasty, or labia reduction surgery, is an outpatient procedure that will be performed onsite at our surgical center in Little Rock using the most technologically advanced equipment available. Your comfort and safety are our utmost concern, so you’ll be given general anesthesia to ensure a quick and painless 1 hour procedure.
Your labiaplasty surgery will begin with the removal of excess labia minora tissue through multiple small incisions. As tissue from the labia minora is excised, Dr. Prince will keep an eye towards creating aesthetically pleasing contours and symmetry across the entire vulva. Small dissolvable sutures will be placed at your incision sites, and will completely disappear after several weeks.
Once your surgery is complete, Dr. Prince will apply a long-term anesthetic that will significantly reduce any postoperative pain you may feel. Your labiaplasty will be an outpatient procedure, meaning that after your surgery you will be allowed to leave to recover in the comfort of your own home.
Dr. Prince will personally guide you through every stage of your labiaplasty and will make sure that you receive the care and surgical excellence that has earned her a reputation of renown.
Dr. Prince is literally wonderful. I love her attitude, and her staff is the best.

Risks & Complications
Your safety is a top priority to Dr. Prince and she will carefully go over all the potential risks and side effects before your surgery. As with all surgical procedures, there are risks associated with labiaplasty which include bleeding, bruising, and infection.3 A common complication is over-resection, which can lead to chronic dryness, scarring, and discomfort4 or even pain with intercourse.
Labiaplasty Recovery
After your labiaplasty surgery, you’ll be able to return to work within 3 to 4 days. You may experience some discomfort and swelling after your surgery which Dr. Prince will help you manage with medication. You should wait 2 weeks after your surgery to use a tampon and wait 4 weeks before having intercourse or engaging in strenuous activity.
Labiaplasty Results
For most patients, labiaplasty surgery results in very little scarring and is virtually undetectable after healing is complete. Our patients report boosted confidence, improved sexual intimacy, and a newfound ease with physical activities that were previously challenging due to excess labia tissue.
